Facials: A Remedy for Clean, Smooth, and Healthy Skin

Facials:
A Remedy for Clean, Smooth, and Healthy Skin

A facial is a skin treatment for the face that cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, hydrated, smooth and well balanced skin. Exfoliation
removes the oldest dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface leaving the skin smooth and soft.  Facials deep clean the pores of the skin by extraction. It is sometimes called a "deep-cleansing facial" or  "deep-pore” cleansing.  Extractions remove the blackheads and the whiteheads from inside the pores.  The result is soft, smoothe, and clean skin.

You can make and use your own all natural, herbal facial in minutes and in the comfort of your own home without paying for a pricy skin treatment at your local spa.  Follow these few simple tips for clean, soft and supple skin:

A Homemade Astringent

Make an astringent or skin cleanser out of lemon juice.
Just dilute 3/4 cup of lemon juice with 1/4 cup of water and wipe off dirt and grime off your skin with a cotton ball.  Rinse your face thoroughly with water.

Applying Steam to the Face

Apply steam to your face by making a hot compress with a facial towel and 1 tbsp of sea salt in a bowl of hot water.  Continuously dip the towel in the water, squeeze the water out, and drape your face with the towel for 3-5 minutes.  This will open up the pours of your skin to allow dirt and bacteria to be dislodged with the help of a scrub.

Chai-Oatmeal-Olive Oil Facial Scrub

No facial is complete without exfoliating the skin to get rid of dry dead skin, dirt, and bacteria preset inside the pores. A facial scrub does the perfect job.  Prepare a Chai-Oatmeal, Olive Oil Facial Scrub.  To do this you will need:

  • 1 cup oat oatmeal
  • 1 bag of Chai tea
  • 1/4 cup of sea salt
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 Tbsp of Olive Oil
  • small mixing bowl
In a coffee grinder, grind the oatmeal very finely.  Add this to the small bowl along with the Chai tea, sea salt, water, and the Olive Oil.  Mix well and apply to the face using a circular motion. Let this mixture dry on the face for 10 minutes.  Rinse off thoroughly and pat your skin dry with a dry, clean towel.

Promoting Healing with Aloe Vera

Protecting Your Skin

The skin is the largest organ in the body.  It has many important functions. It is the first line of defense against germs and bacteria.  It protects the inside of the body from the harsh elements of the outside environment.  It allows the body to cool off through perspiration (evaporation of water through the pores of the skin). When the skin becomes dry, the cells become damaged and microbes can enter into the bloodstream and cause infection.  It is important to keep your skin
moisturized with lotions and body oils to keep skin cells supple and pliable.

Promoting Healing
 with Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a succulent plant that is acclaimed  for its amazing ability to promote fast and effective healing.  As you cut into an aloe vera leaf, a clear, gel-like substance is contained within its flesh.  It is this gel that is carefully harvested and used for its medicinal and anti-inflammatory properties.
It is used most commonly used in a variety of skin lotions as an additive to heal skin irritation, burns, and minor cuts and scrapes.  Pure aloe vera gel, however, can be applied to the skin for maximum healing effectiveness.
Why is this plant so good at promoting healing?Aloe vera contains 18 to 20 amino acids.  Amino acids are the organic building blocks of all proteins found in plants and animals.  The cells within the skin "soak up" these raw materials in the aloe vera and uses it to build more proteins and cells to repair damaged areas in the skin.

Bath Magic: Soaking in Epsom Salt

Bath Magic:  Soaking in Epsom Salt

Many of us are deficient or have low levels of magnesium. Magnesium deficiency in the body is associated with stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, joint pain, arthritis, chronic fatigue, digestive problems, and other stress related illnesses.  An easy way to replace magnesium is to soak in a bath with epsom salt.

Soaking in epsom salts may be an old fashioned cure for aching joints and muscles, but this time-tested, feel good cure has real benefits for the human body.  Over 325 enzymes (proteins) are regulated by magnesium.  Some of these enzymes are catalysts for important bodily functions such as electrical impulse control, muscle control, production of enery, and the elimination of toxins from the body.  Epsom salt is a compound that is naturally occurring and made from the elements magnesium and sulfate.   Magnesium is the second most abundant element found in cells within the human body.
When your body is deficient in this crucial substance, one of the best ways to replace its level within the body is through soaking in a bath.  Magnesium molecules that are dissolved in water are quickly absorbed through the pores in your skin.
